Writing
The questions behind the numbers.
I write about audience, budget, measurement, and the decisions between a click and a customer. Less commentary on the latest tactic, more thinking you can use.
2026
The agency of the future should make its reasoning visible
Monthly decks and black-box optimization no longer fit modern paid media. Senior operators, clear standards, and visible decisions should.
The unglamorous truth about growth
Growth rarely comes from one campaign. It comes from connected decisions about the customer, the economics, and what happens after the click.
AI will not replace judgment. It will expose weak judgment.
Prompts and data determine AI output. Monitoring is not deciding. Guardrails, approval, audit trails, and data permissions keep operators responsible.
Paid media works better as one system than as separate channels
Search captures intent. Social shapes demand. CRM outcomes should feed allocation. Coordination changes results more than channel slogans do.
The first click is the middle of the story
At common conversion rates, most visitors leave after the first interaction. The landing page, nurture, sales process, and retention decide the rest.
Attribution is an assumption, not a fact
Platform self-attribution, last click, and view-through windows are models. Better data improves evidence. It does not create causal certainty.
Your ROAS can improve while the business gets worse
Discounts, margin erosion, repeat buyers, and attribution can lift ROAS while cash and contribution decline. Ask what the business kept.
CAC is not one number, and LTV is not permission to overspend
Marginal CAC, cohort LTV, contribution margin, and payback can disagree with a flattering LTV:CAC headline. Cash still gets a vote.
2025
When ads feel expensive, ask what the customer is worth
CPC and CPM say little on their own. Acquisition cost only makes sense beside customer economics and the cost of not investing.
A marketing budget is a decision about focus
Spreading spend too thin slows growth and learning. Concentration creates signal, opportunity cost, and clearer next decisions.
The same customer needs a different message at each stage of awareness
Unaware, problem-aware, solution-aware, product-aware, and most-aware buyers need different messages. Creative strategy starts there.
Reach is easy to buy. Relevance is harder.
A larger audience can create more waste, not more growth. Relevance starts with ICP, awareness, message, and channel fit.
Something worth carrying into the work.
Occasional notes on attention, judgment, and the decisions behind growth. Written when there is something useful to see differently.
